God and Money
Hey everyone!
So I am all in this thought process lately for maybe the last 6 months, if not longer. Just being completely unhappy at my job. Grateful for it, yes. Just unhappy. So I had been looking at the job postings within my company to see what's out there. Applied for a few in the past, got an interview for one, rejects on the rest. No stress, because I firmly believe that God closes doors on me, NOT man. So i'm cool. But being in corporate America, one thing they push is Career Development. And in your reviews, like the one I had this week, you always get the "So, where do you see yourself in 5 years?". Wow did that question ever hit me this time.
I know we all have to make sure that we are providing for the needs of our family. So we look to career advancement in order to do that. Well in all of this family growth and life changes, our needs change. You look to better paying jobs to supply the income you need in order to provide the supplies needed for your home/family. If you need a bigger house, you need a bigger income to get it. If you need a better credit score, you need to increase your income in order to pay down current debt. If you need a bigger vehicle then you need a trade in or cash down payment. I think you see the pattern here... Money, Money, Money...
But even for a believer, it's very easy to mess up your priorities. I know some people may see this mistake as an example of Christian Hypocrisy. But it's truly a mistake. Being saved is a journey, and we are still human people who make mistakes. Here is where we make our mistakes. We preach all the time to keep God first in EVERYTHING we do. But when it comes to the bills, rent, mortgage, auto payments, etc sometimes, we tend to look internally at what we can do just a little too much. We all say All Promotion Comes From God. And some people have the testimony to show you. But so many of us rely on our own talents, our own skills that we've learned from our last job to advance us to the next one. Our mistake likes right there. We forget where our Promotion comes from. Then when we don't get the promotion that we need, while our "need" is lingering over our heads, we fall into this mental stress situation. Why? Because we were trying to find a new career/job in our own strength and not through God.
I'm a firm believer that God will give me the desires of my heart as long as I seek the Kingdom first. And the Lord knows that a new career direction that allows me certain things including a better income is a desire of mine. But I refuse to believe that i'm so great in my skills that I am going to be able to find myself a new career and some hiring manager is going to be so very impressed with me that they will offer me a crazy amount of money. But I WILL be the one that will apply for positions while staying in prayer that God close the door if that is not His will for my life. I don't want to be in a career that He did not choose for me. How would I get my blessings from that place? It's like me telling my son, go to Antarctica and bring me warm sand from the beach. Can't do it.
So as you go through these career questions and trying to build your income so you can retire early and do what you TRULY want to do, consider your Provider. Who will you serve? Who will you seek when you are in need? Where is the storehouse with the supplies that you require? All of it is found in Him. Seek Him first. Tell Him about your needs. Make Him your first resource. Ask Him to prove you. Just like I ask Him to Prove as well.
I pray that you are able to see a different perspective regarding God and your money. I Love You All! Be Blessed!!!!!
