The Blame Game

1 Samuel 30:1-6 NLT
Three days later, when David and his men arrived home at their town of Ziklag, they found that the Amalekites had made a raid into the Negev and Ziklag; they had crushed Ziklag and burned it to the ground. They had carried off the women and children and everyone else but without killing anyone.
When David and his men saw the ruins and realized what had happened to their families, they wept until they could weep no more. David’s two wives, Ahinoam from Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel, were among those captured. David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. But David found strength in the lord his God.

Today I thought about this story and remembered that sometimes bad things happen. And sometimes they happen when you think you are doing something good. In the case above, David and his soldiers were out doing the work of the Lord. When they came back, they found that their wives and children had been kidnapped. Their possessions were taken. Everything was gone. The men were so upset, they needed someone to blame. And since David was in charge and the one that lead them to be away, he became the target of blame.

What i like in this story was that David was the one in charge and was leading them in battle. And yes he became the target of blame by the soldiers. Its not that he didn't lose anything, because his 2 wives were kidnapped as well as his possessions, so yes he was upset too! Who wouldn't be!? But instead of placing blame anywhere, he went back to God and he asked God what to do. Should i sit, or SHALL WE PURSUE?

As you have your challenges in life, do you find something or someone to blame? Or will you find a solution to the problem? I find myself in one of those moments right now. But this story reminds me, it's not about finding faults. Sometimes there is not a fault to find. Sometimes things just happen. But you have to decide for yourself that you don't have the energy for the blame game. The only thing you have energy for is to become part of the solution. And that's where I am. I choose to be part of the solution. Where will you choose to be?
